Ben Cobb of Gray-New Gloucester, left, battles for possession with a Maranacook player on Saturday at Lewiston High School. First-year Gray-NG coach Will Burdick said his team has embraced the underdog role. "I think Gray is known as a program that is known as hard workers," Burdick said. "We have kids who are willing to work hard and we are really excited. We are seen as the underdogs sometimes because we are in a super-good conference, but we really embrace that role and we have guys here that are working hard and have a talented team that people will come to see in the fall."

Nick Florek takes over goal kick duties for Maranacook in the team's match with Gray-New Gloucester on Saturday at Play Day at Lewiston High School. For first-year Gray-NG coach Will Burdick, Saturday was a great way to check out his team. "Evaluating us, our team getting chemistry, having another layer of preseason to evaluate them and getting them to play together," Burdick said. "This is just as much to be evaluating ourselves as coaches, as well, and it’s just nice to be playing again."

Oxford Hills builds a wall to defend against a free kick in its game against Winslow at Lewiston High School. Oxford Hills head coach Matt Dieterich believes that Play Day was an opportunity to see what his team could do against stiff competition. "It’s a good tournament, lots of talented teams and it’s a good barometer on the season," Dieterich said. "It’s tough because it’s early in the season and a lot of games and you’re coming off of double sessions. From that standpoint, I’m not sure how much you get out of it, but it’s good to see the competition."
