Councilor Steven Milks argued that the committee should have “broader representation” across wards and feature a more diverse group of people, including residents with school-age children. Mayor Jeff Harmon questioned why there wasn’t an issue until the nominees were put forward.

The first phase will be finished by Dec. 1, allowing the Pleasant Street drop-in center to begin operations on Mill Street.

The move is full circle for D’Auteuil, who previously served as assistant city manager in Auburn before moving onto Lewiston City Hall in 2017.

The vacant property at 121 Mill St. will be used for a resource center.

If the proposal is approved, the building would be used to house the Community Development and General Assistance offices alongside local nonprofits.
