Freeport hotel home to 40 asylum-seeking families after Portland closes arena shelter

The City of Portland negotiated a yearlong contract with Freeport’s Casco Bay Inn to house 40 asylum-seeking families, who will choose to enroll their children in either Portland or Freeport school systems.

About 20 families seeking asylum arrive in Lewiston

The families are asylum seekers who had been staying at the Expo shelter in Portland since April. About 16 children are students who will attend Lewiston schools.
