KINGFIELD – 2 New Exhibits at The STADLER GALLERY

The STADLER GALLERY for Contemporary Art at 225 Main Street in Kingfield is pleased to announce two new exhibitions with works by Sandi Cirillo from Searsport, Maine, and Elizabeth Yamin from New York, New York, and Weld, Maine.  They will be on view from August 8 to 27 daily from 12 noon to 4 pm and by appointment.   ”Fiber Fantasy” is the title of Cirillo’s show.  It is exploring the application of man made and natural fibers in her artistic creations that excite the eye and long to be touched. Cirillo explores and develops new techniques in her field, most recently what she calls fiberscapes which are smaller pieces that emphasize various textural elements and encourage a closer look to see all the details.   Cirillo has been a fiber artist for over 25 year with a passion for natural and man made  materials to create one-of-a-kind mixed media pieces. She holds a B.S. and M.S. in art education.  Although retired as art educator, she still teaches in many workshops throughout the Northeast and in North Carolina. Inspired by her long-time studio location at the waterfront in Brooklyn, New York, Yamin responded to the abstract qualities of the objects in her view with a series of paintings she called “Working the River.”  She welcomes the curves of the barges, the arcs of the bridge, the wheels and ladder-like necks of the cranes into her work.  Looking at a crane gives her the feeling of swinging, the pulleys give her a lift, the giant hooks suggest a dangerous power.  Her paintings attempt a pictorial language that will convey some of the excitement, confusion and pleasure of working amid a scene of marvelous complexity. Yamin works at her studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard during the winter and spends her summers in Weld, Maine  Her recent solo and two-person shows have been at The Painting Center, New York, NY, at The Stadler Gallery for Contemporary Art in Kingfield, ME and at WORKS in Searsport, ME. There will be a reception for the artists on Saturday, August 8, from 2-4 pm.  Please view www.stadlergallery.com for more information.
