FARMINGTON — Two Mt. Blue High School students presented songs in American Sign Language at the May meeting of the Franklin County Retired Educators. Under the leadership of instructor Gail Carlson, Rachel Roy and Debbie McCarty used ASL for the songs “Don’t Wake Me” and “Just Stand Up.”

The presentation was a thank-you for the grant given by FCRE to support the class project of an ASL talent show and workshops by professional mime J. J. Jones

Each year the Franklin County Retired Educators give a grant to a local school teacher for a project not budgeted. Next year Jay school teachers will be eligible to apply for a grant.

The retired educators also recognized three members of the school community of Franklin County who died within the past year. White roses were given in remembrance of deceased members Ellsworth Crocker, Denise Morin and Leatrice Orr.

Franklin County Retired Educators who were recognized at the recent Maine state convention in Augusta were Craigen Healy for leadership, Trudy Dawson for 570.5 hours of volunteerism and Joann Underkuffler for 670 hours of physical activity.
