WEST PARIS — The Board of Selectmen has voted to accept the resignation of Selectman Peter Collette, who presented a letter to the board Sept. 8 but did not give a reason for his resignation, Town Manager Wade Rainey said.

A special town meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, following the selectmen meeting, to fill Collette’s seat. Nominations will be taken from the floor.

“People who want to run for the position don’t have to take out papers at the Town Office,” Rainey said.

“Peter’s term was set to run until March 2018, so whoever is elected on Oct. 13 will serve until then,” the manager said.

In other business, resident Nate McNutt is planning to install a black chain-link fence at a cemetery on Ellingwood Road, Rainey said.

“He came to us and said that he wanted to raise some money and replace a cemetery fence on Ellingwood Road as part of an Eagle Scout project,” Rainey said. “That fence was in disrepair, and the town already had plans to fix it, so we agreed to let him do it.”
