This is in response to the letter from Martha Hurd who thinks Democrats do as they say and Republicans say one thing and do the other (Feb. 15).
She brought up President Bush’s “”read my lips, no new taxes”” statement. The Democrats are the ones who raised our taxes. Remember the Democrats controlled both houses and they are the ones who attached a tax increase to a bill that the president wanted to pass, so he really didn’t have a choice but to sign on the dotted line.
He could have vetoed the bill but he would have not gotten what he was going for.
Please spare us that Democrats do as they say. Both parties don’t always tell you the whole truth.
