Perry Morneau, a former player with Junior Major hockey circuits in Canada, wrote that Lewiston shouldn’t try to host the soon-to-be-former Sherbrook Castors (Feb. 13). Part of his reasoning is that it didn’t work in the past. I would like to point out that this is Portland’s second try at hockey as well, and they are doing fine.

Why not us?

Some lifelong residents had rather cling to the blighted shreds of a dying mill town than learn to honor someone else. All over the country cities are evolving, letting go of the fallacy that it’s possible to move forward for two generations and then freeze ourselves in time like some perverted Brigadoon. Other cities grow and prosper.
