This letter is in response to comments made in a letter in the March 16 edition of your newspaper.

In that letter the writer made comparisons between the current situation in the United States and the war in Iraq, with the “”Nazi era”” and “”Hitler.””

While I respect the expression of deeply held feelings during a time of war, this goes beyond the line of acceptable criticism.

To compare the current Bush administration with one of the worst dictators in history is a stretch of the idea of free speech and open discussion.

Certainly, if there is any current day comparison to be made with Hitler, it is with the regime of Saddam Hussein. It is his regime that has killed thousands of its citizens and forced millions into exile.

As the writer stated, “”being patriotic is more complicated than following the leader.””
