Our new governor said he would balance the budget but not raise taxes. Well, I have news for him: we’re not stupid.

When he eliminates the homestead exemption and we have to outlay an additional $400 to $700 per year in property taxes over what we have been paying that, in my estimation, is a tax increase.

Once again, the middle class taxpayer gets the shaft.

This state needs to cut the size of government and, if taxes have to be raised, raise the sales tax. It’s the only fair thing to do.

This way everyone, from the poor to the rich, pays additional taxes based upon their purchasing power. And this way we also get the tourists to kick in for enjoying our state for the time they are here.

It’s time for our leadership in Augusta to stop playing politics and do what is fair for all.
