1918 – 2003
RANGELEY — Marion R. Mitchell, 85, of Rangeley, died Thursday, April 3, at her home.
She was born March 23, 1918, in East Burke, Vt., a daughter of Arthur L. and Nellie M. (Rose) Gaskell. She moved to Farmington with her parents and later to Rangeley with her husband Atherton Mitchell.
Mrs. Mitchell operated the Sunny Brae Gardens greenhouse and raised golden retrievers for many years. She was also a great caretaker of wildlife in the area. She was a choir member at the Church of the Good Shepherd, clerk for Dallas Plantation for many years and member of the Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years; two daughters, Janet M. O’Neil (Dennis) of Westborough, Mass., and Beverly A. Walker (Jack) of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a sister, Marjorie Goodwin of New Sharon; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Arthur H. (Jack) Gaskell of Portland.
