BETHEL – Town meeting voters will get the chance to decide whether Bethel sticks with its local police force or opts for county coverage.
After nearly 30 minutes of off-topic discussion Monday night between the board and a handful of residents, selectmen voted 3-0 favoring Selectman Reggie Brown’s motion to take the issue to a referendum article.
Brown also stipulated that selectmen convene a public hearing to get the facts about law enforcement coverage out to voters.
Chairman Harry Dresser Jr. thought it would also be a good idea to have Oxford County Sheriff Lloyd Herrick present to explain what going with county coverage would mean.
