WATERFORD – State Planning Office officials do not agree with the change in the shoreland zoning ordinance approved at the March town meeting.
A state official contacted Tim Fanning from the Planning Board to express disapproval of the “change from one to five years the time period to resume a nonconforming use,” as stated in the proposal.
The new ordinance allows more time for a change of use by businesses in shoreland zoning. The change permits the reopening of Springer’s Store. Deputy Town Clerk Jennifer Morin reported that the ordinance “will be left the way it was approved for this year.” The state suggested that it be taken back to the next town meeting and be changed back then.
A request was sent from the Waterford Library for the facility to be placed under the town of Waterford in the bid price for heating oil. As a municipality, Waterford can purchase heating oil and fuel under the school district. Both fuels are put out to bid annually. Selectman Cynthia Hamlin will check with the school district to see if any other towns have similar requests. Selectmen were unsure who would have influence in that decision.
Road Commissioner Brad Grover discussed the purchase of the new dump truck. Morin reported a difference of about $5,800 between a Sterling model and the International truck. Grover said there wasn’t any difference between the two models. Selectmen all voted in favor of purchasing the less expensive Sterling from Whited Ford in Auburn.
Minutes were accepted from the March 16 meeting.
Weapon permits for George Kosiavelon and Stan Harmon were signed by selectmen at Monday night’s meeting.
A policy for the use of the Municipal Building was discussed. Hamlin is clarifying the policy and will submit it to the next meeting for review.
Fire Chief Brad Grover brought in the mutual aid agreement that the Fire Department drew up with the Cumberland/Oxford Chiefs Association. The agreement was signed by the fire chief and selectmen.
