BRUNSWICK – Jimmy Shea drove in the game-winning run in the 11th inning of a hitters’ parade as Bowdoin downed Tufts, 5-3, in baseball action Friday.

The Polar Bears (9-9) stayed alive in the ninth when Jared Lemieux stroked a two-run double to score Ben Yormak and T.J. McLeod. Travis Dube earned the win in relief with four and two-thirds innings.

The Polar Bears tallied 18 hits while the Jumbos secured 14, leaving a combined 24 runners stranded.

Husson splits pair

BANGOR – Jason Harvey sprayed six hits in nine at-bats as Husson split a twinbill with Fisher College in baseball action Friday.

Barrett Dionne and Chris McInnis combined for a no-hitter, while striking out 10 as the Braves rolled to a 9-0 win in Game 1. Victor Joaquin smacked the game-winning double for Fisher College in the top of the eighth inning of the nightcap in a 6-4 victory.

USM 15, Thomas 2

GORHAM – Senior second baseman Andy Lang cracked four hits and knocked in three runs to lead Southern Maine to a 15-2 rout over Thomas.

The Terriers (1-11) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by sophomore Scott Brawn and an infield error. Lang sparked a two-run rally in the bottom half of the inning with a two-out double. Senior left fielder Tyler Delorme knocked in Lang with an RBI single and later scored on a double steal.

Lang led off the third with a triple, as the Huskies (8-10) batted through the order for four runs. Lang just missed hitting for the cycle in the eighth when his bases-loaded drive to left field hit halfway up the fence, contributing to a six run outburst.

Softball
Southern Maine takes two

GORHAM – Sophomore pitcher Kari Vance spun a three-hitter in the opener and freshman Caterina Riitano drove in the game-winning run of the night cap in 1-0 and 4-3 wins in softball action.

Sophomore Ashley Woodcock of Jay scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning of on a double by senior Renee Heath. Bowdoin failed to advance anyone beyond second base as Vance limited the Polar Bears (5-10) to three hits and retired 16 during one stretch.

Bowdoin grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning of Game 2, but the Huskies responded with single runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth to muster a 4-1 cushion. In the top of the sixth, freshmen Megan Rodgers and Laura Perovich drove in a run apiece for the Polar Bears. However, Southern Maine pitcher Melissa Henderson stranded the tying run on third base.
