1969 – 2003

IRAQ – Spc. Daniel Francis Cunningham Jr., 33, formerly of Lewiston, died Friday, April 4, in Iraq while serving in the U.S. Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He was born in Lewiston on Dec. 9, 1969, the son of the late Daniel F. Cunningham Sr. and the former Nancy L. Therriault. He attended Lewiston schools and graduated from Oxford High School in the Class of 1988. He was married to the former Heather E. Edwards on May 18, 1991. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish.

Spc. Cunningham has served with the U.S. Army for the past three years and was currently stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia, in the 41st Field Artillery Regiment until his recent deployment to Iraq. He also served in the peace mission in Kosovo. Dan was proud to serve his country with pride and honor.

He loved spending time with his son and being with family. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and all sports.

He is survived by Heather, his wife of 12 years; his son, Connor A. Cunningham; his mother, Nancy L. Cunningham of Lewiston; three brothers, David of Hampton , N.H., Kevin and his wife, Samantha, of Auburn, and James of Auburn; his maternal grandmother, Loretta Currier of Auburn; and his paternal grandmother, Geraldine Cunningham of Lewiston.
