BROWNFIELD – The Maine Superior Court on Thursday granted a preliminary injunction against a Brownfield couple accused of a racially motivated attack on Freyburg Academy students two years ago.

The injunction prohibits Roseanne Hinds and Frank Warren from entering Fryeburg Academy property or getting within 150 of the victims or their families.

According to court records, in April 2001, Hinds and Warren used racial slurs to taunt students at the school, and Hinds assaulted two of the students on the campus.

Hinds later pleaded no contest and was found guilty of the assaults.

In August 2002, Hinds and Warren assaulted a 19-year-old African-America woman who had come to their home to speak with their niece, according to an Attorney General’s Office press release.

Investigators said the attack on that woman was also racially motivated, although the press release did not specify what criminal action was taken.

The A.G.’s Office, under the Maine Civil Rights Act, then requested the injunction against Hinds and Warren. It was granted after a hearing Thursday in a Paris court.
