FARMINGTON – Students of Higher Roads Martial Arts Academy will be putting on a demonstration of martial arts at Orchard Park Nursing Home in Farmington at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 14.

Civil War topic

FARMINGTON – The Farmington Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. for a potluck supper followed by a business meeting and program at 7 p.m. Monday, April 14, at the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church on Academy Street. Landscaping topic

FARMINGTON – Landscape Problem Solving is the topic when the Mount Blue Garden Club meets at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the Farmington Municipal Building. Mark LaBonte will be the speaker. There will be an opportunity to ask questions about individual landscaping problems. Members are welcome and may find it useful to bring pictures of the property in question.

A business meeting will follow with Norine Veal presiding. Plans will be made for the annual membership tea in May as well as the plant sale planned for May 17. Visitors are welcome.

NEW VINEYARD – The New Vineyard Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the Historical Room. Topics include family tree charts and an election of officers. All are welcome.

County firefighters

JAY – The Franklin County Firemen’s Association will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the North Jay Fire Station. The program will be presented by representatives from the Fire Marshal’s office. There will be a drawing for a door prize and refreshments will be available after the meeting.

All fire fighters and interested personnel are welcome to attend this meeting.

Holy Week services

RANGELEY – The Church of the Good Shepherd has announced its services for Holy Week. At 7 p.m. Thursday, April 17, there will be the holy eucharist, food washing and altar stripping; 3 p.m. Friday, April 18, reflections and meditations; 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, veneration of the cross and stations of the cross; 6 p.m. Saturday, April 19, Easter vigil, lighting of paschal fire and renewal of baptismal vows; 8:30 a.m. Sunday, April 20, Sunday eucharist. Oyster stew supper

FARMINGTON – The annual oyster stew supper for the benefit of the Fairbanks Red Sox Little League will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Fairbanks Union Church. Oyster stew, dessert and beverage will be offered for $5 adults and $3.50 children.

Award winner

LIVERMORE – Alexis Barker, a freshman at Westover School in Middlebury, Conn., has been awarded the Westover School Maine Scholarship, established in 1995 by an alumna from Maine.

Barker is the daughter of Drs. Gary and Karen Barker of Livermore.

Easter service

FARMINGTON – Pilgrim Commandery No. 19 of Farmington will hold its annual Easter service at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, April 20, at the Masonic Temple on Main Street. All Sir Knights and Masons, invited sons and grandsons are welcome. The service will be followed by a breakfast. There is a minimum charge for the breakfast.

FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Retired Teachers Association will hold its April meeting starting at 11 a.m. Monday, April 21, at the Granary Restaurant. CHESTERVILLE – The Webster Cemetery Association will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, April 21, at the Chesterville Town Hall.

Cancer survivors

FARMINGTON – A training class for breast cancer survivors interested in becoming Reach to Recovery visitors will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday, April 21, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

Reach to Recovery helps breast cancer patients meet emotional, physical and cosmetic needs. The American Cancer Society’s program helps women from the Farmington area by matching volunteer visitors who have experienced breast cancer with women dealing with the disease today.

Composting lesson

NEW SHARON -Theresa Martin and her granddaughters, Alison Dyke and Shawna Thompson of New Sharon will give a class on vermacomposting at the seventh annual Wildgathering at the Athens Fairgrounds May 23 to 25.

Alison, 12, and Shawna, 14, have been working with their grandmother and will present a class on “Worms Eat my Garbage,” at the three-day celebrtation of the wild earth.
