LEWISTON – My name is Sara Spellman. I am 12 years old and I’m in the sixth grade and am home schooled. I live in Auburn with my brother, Jacob, and my mom and dad. We have four pets. Our three cats are Jenny Any Dots, Sunshine and Mistoffelees. Our dog is Cassie. We have hermit crabs and a tadpole.
I’m the kind of kid who likes to read and dance. I’m in Girl Scouts, too.
The title of the book I recommend is “Ella Enchanted” by Gail Carson Levine. It is a fiction book. It’s funny and it’s a fantasy story. The main character is Ella. It takes place in the past in a place called Kyrria. The main character’s biggest problem is that she’s under a curse, and if someone commands her to do something, she has to do it.
This book is so good because it’s funny. Ella is headstrong and she would like to make choices herself instead of having people make choices for her. The most exciting part of this book was near the end when Char, the prince, wants to marry her, but she doesn’t want to because she’s under the curse. Ella was scared for Kyrria and Char. This part of the book made me feel anxious.
You should read this book if you like fairies, and magic. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I give it five stars * * * * *.
Sara participates in the Hooked on Books parent/child book group at the Lewiston Public Library. Hooked on Books meets once a month on a Saturday. After a brief group discussion, the children and their parents work together on a book-related project. For “Ella Enchanted” the children designed outdoor winter garlands of fruits and vegetables.
If interested in joining the group, kids can register through the Children’s Room. For more information and meeting dates, call 784-0135, extension 4.
