GORHAM – Sarah McLean smashed a two-run home run and later crossed the plate as the winning run, leading Southern Maine to a 3-2 win in the opening game of a double-header against Western Connecticut. Melissa Henderson (7-3) took the win on the mound for the Huskies (15-6).

Melissa Walsh of Western Connecticut (12-5) plated two runs with a triple in the second game to lead her team to a 5-2 win in the nightcap. The loss was the first of the season for USM pitcher Katie Mainville (7-1).

Bowdoiun splits

HARTFORD, Conn. – Abby Daley collected her second win of the season as Bowdoin salvaged the nightcap of a doubleheader against Trinity of Connecticut. Danielle Chagnon paced the Polar Bears (6-12) with two hits and two runs in the win.

Megan Rogers had two doubles, but they weren’t enough as Bowdoin fell in the early game 7-4. Erin Hanley took the loss for Bowdoin.

UMF sweeps Husson

FARMINGTON – Farmington scored six runs in the third inning and another eight in the fourth to overwhelm Husson 15-2 in the opening game of the team’s doubleheader on Sunday. Lauren Stacey held Husson (4-10) to just one hit.

, while the offense too advantage of several Husson miscues.

The Beavers (3-2) again pounced on Husson in the nightcap, taking the contest 12-2. Twelve hits and strong pitching led to the victory for Farmington. The wins came in Farmington’s first two conference games of the season.

Tufts 10, Bates 3

Tufts 8, Bates 0

LEWISTON – After leading 3-0 in the first half of the first inning, Bates could manage no more. Tufts answered with four runs in the bottom of the firtst and never looked back en route to a 10-3, 8-0 sweep of Bates on Sunday.

Katie Smith and Deana Davidian led Tufts (15-9) with seven hits in nine at-bats in game one, with Julie Fox going 3-for-3 in the nightcap.

Erin Foye collected three hits for Bates (1-7) in game one, with Krissie Whiting, Sarah Levine and Dayna Krakower adding two each.
