AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Club Garden Club will hold its annual herb luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at the clubhouse, Elm Street. It is a potluck luncheon and members are asked to bring a salad, casserole or dessert. Sue Morgan is in charge of hospitality.

Three Wednesdays, May 7, 14 and 21, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Learn how to play simple tunes on the harmonica. Harmonicas provided by the center – limited to six women (50+), directed by the staff.
Thursday, May 8, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jamming on drums – bring drum; some instruments provided by the center, directed by staff.
Friday, May 16, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Safety tips for women, presented by Rich Pelletier of Pelletier’s Karate Academy; child care available.

LISBON – Coombs-Mountfort American Legion Post 158 has named William King as Legionnaire of the Year.
King spent 25 1/2 years in the Army, serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
King served as post steward for 20 years, trustee for 33 years and commander for five years. He helps place flags in eight cemeteries, organizing the firing squard for Memorial Day and checking the post needs daily.
Handgun course
TURNER – SAD 52 River Valley Adult and Community Education will offer a handgun safety personal protection program beginning Tuesday, April 29. It will run for three weeks from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at Leavitt Area High School. Brian Moulton will instruct.
The NRA Personal Protection Program is the National Rifle Association’s response to thousands of Americans who own handguns for personal protection and desire to learn to use their firearms with greater safety and skill.
The class provides the basic knowledge to operate and use a handgun safely and to teach the fundamentals needed to shoot it skillfully. The program has been developed and tested by experts in law, law enforcement, firearms technology and shooting instruction. Participants must be 18 to attend.
