LEWISTON – The Lewiston Public Library will unveil plans for the Pilsbury Building expansion project on Thursday evening, April 17. Library Board Chairwoman Jan Phillips will present an overview of the project, which includes a cultural learning center, historical archives and computer lab.
The event will also feature the release of a new publication by Philip M. Isaacson, “Gridley Barrows: a Recollection.” Barrows was a respected local architect, historian and historic preservationist who died in 1999. The booklet includes a reprint of a 2000 talk given in Gridley’s honor by Isaacson.
Earle G. Shettleworth Jr., director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, will present a slide lecture, “The Camera Discovers Lewiston: Early Photographs of a Maine Mill City,” at 7 p.m. in the Teen Room on the second floor. The program, the first in the 100th anniversary celebration at the library, is free and open to the public.
