1916 – 2003

NORWAY – Josephine Benedetto, 86, of Norway, died Monday, April 14, at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.

Born in Jay, Aug. 13, 1916, the daughter of Antonio and Antonia DeiCicchi Scappaticci, she graduated from Jay High School in 1936.

She was employed at local shoe shops and had been a homemaker all of her life. She was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Norway, the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima and for many years she was a member of “T.O.P.S” weight loss group. She volunteered at the food pantry, the community lunch and at the hospital sorting mail.

She loved flowers and her rock garden. She participated in the annual Alzheimer’s Association walk. She married John Benedetto on Oct. 28, 1939 and he died in 1998.

Survivors include a sister, Anna Scappaticci Sawyer and her husband, Cliff of Jay; a brother, John Scappaticci of Jay; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Nicola Scappaticci.
