NEW GLOUCESTER — “The Rhythm of Life: Sabbathday Lake in 1903” is a new exhibit at the Shaker Museum. The exhibit highlights Shaker life a century ago. Manuscripts, photographs and artifacts tell the story about the Sabbathday Lake Shakers, an active community of believers that has now entered its fourth century in Maine.
The Shaker Museum will open for the season on Monday, May 26, Memorial Day. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays (closed Sundays). The season will end on Columbus Day. Tours, workshops/ demonstrations, nature walks and other special events will be offered during the season. For more information call 926-4597 or visit www.shaker.lib.me.us.
Three woodworking workshops will be held this season. Chris Becksvoort, internationally known furniture maker and author of “The Shaker Legacy,” will lead the sessions.
The workshops are “Introduction to Wood,” May 31; “Hand Tools I,” June 7; and “Hand Tools II,” July 19. Each is $20 a person. Pre-registration is required. For more details call 926-4597 or write [email protected].
