Thorncraig was established as a bird sanctuary before most of us were born. These foresighted founders set aside land “for the protection of wild birds, preserve God’s out-of-doors and the wildlife therein.”
I am concerned about the future plans some of the directors have for this region. Have they thought of their responsibilities?
They were appointed to represent what the founders desires were for this land, not change them. What has happened to respect and morals?
Have they thought of the future impact on this environment?
Have they read about the erosion problems facing our parks as they have become more accessible to the public?
I disagree easy access is appropriate for this sanctuary. My research indicates they would like to build a nature center complex large enough to accommodate 1,000-plus people a day! How much wildlife is going to survive in this type of environment?
Remember it wasn’t so long ago the L-A area was faced with a similar situation, many acres of woods, fields and wetlands were removed for another parking lot and mammoth store!
The founders of this preservation set up an area for L-A (similar to Gov. Baxter’s gift to the Maine people). It is our turn to protect what we are fortunate to have so nearby.
