ORONO – Peter G. Vigue, president and CEO of Cianbro Corp., has been elected president of the University of Maine Pulp & Paper Foundation.

With Maine’s percentage of forestlands greater than any state in the nation, fiber quality amongst the best in the world, and generations of papermakers second to none in the industry, Vigue believes Maine has the ability to be a global leader in the forest products and paper market.

Vigue, a 33-year Cianbro veteran, has emphasized construction safety, both within the company and in the industry at large. He implemented stringent workplace safety rules company-wide that became OSHA standards 10 years later, said a Cianbro spokesman.

The foundation was established in 1950. Its goal is to provide a steady stream of quality engineers for the pulp, paper and related industries.
