1924 – 2003

NORWAY-Lillian S. Sowersby, 78, of Stoneham, died Tuesday, April 15 at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was born in North Paris Dec. 8, 1924, the daughter of Fred and Ethel Gary Cash. She lost her mother when she was eight years old, and was thought of not only as a big sister but a loving mother figure to her younger siblings.

She worked for many years for B.E. Cole shoe shop. She also worked as a certified nurse’s aid at Market Square Health Care Center and Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.

She enjoyed reading and embroidering. She loved her dogs and her family. Her nieces and nephews thought of her as a grandmother.

She is survived by a son, Joseph Cash and his wife Donna of Harrison; three sisters, Amy Scribner and her husband Ken of Oxford, Rowena Dunham and her husband Herbie of Greenwood, and Alice Ziplow and her husband William of Vienna, Va.; a brother, Roenell Cummings and his wife Elizabeth of West Paris; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several special nieces and nephews; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Willey and Bonnie Clough ,both of Bethel.

She was predeceased by two husbands, Clifford Sowersby and Linwood Machia; two brothers, Benton Cash and Anson Lindley; and two sisters, Evelyn Baker and Betsy Wilson.
