WEST PARIS – Robert Kirchherr will be the guest speaker at the West Paris Unitarian Universalist Church on Main Street at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 27. He will speak on “Living with Change: Embracing Change.” The pastor is the Rev. Joy Gasta. James Burke is the organist.
District 9 VFW
LEWISTON – VFW Post 9150 and auxiliary will host the District 9 convention starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at the Elks Lodge on outer Lisbon Street. Posts from Auburn, Jay, Greene, Lisbon, South Paris, Rumford, Canton and Lewiston make up the district. A short Loyalty Day program will be held.
Auxiliaries will remain at the Elks Lodge for a meeting and election while the posts will hold their session at the Lisbon Post. Installation of both units will be held in Lisbon at 3:45 p.m. A ham supper will be provided.
Church speaker
PARIS – Bonnie Hurd Smith will be the speaker at the 10 a.m. service, Sunday, April 27, at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris. The sermon is titled, “Judith Sargent Murray: Her Life and Her Legacy.” Forest E. Perkins is church organist. Sunday School will be in session during the service and child care is provided. The coffee hour will follow in Good Cheer Hall. Everyone is welcome.
Poetry program
WATERFORD – The Waterford Library Association will present teacher and writer John O’Brien in a program from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 12, and Monday, May 19, at the library. The program is titled “The Poetry of Spring: Birds, Bugs and Frogs.”
Blood drive
FRYEBURG – The Red Cross bloodmobile will be at Fryeburg Academy’s Gibson Gym, Bradley Street, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, May 12. For more information, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE.
Bridge results
NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge played a six-table Mitchell Movement on April 18. Fred Letourneau and Mike Quinn came in first North-South, and Lorry Letourneau and Pat Quinn came in second. The East-West winners were Win Rosendahl and Eleanor Griffin first, and Carol Curran and Suzanne Dame-Andrews second.
The group plays at 9 a.m. every Friday in the community room of Town and Country Mobile Home Village on Route 26, south of Norway Village on Town and Country Drive. A partner is always available. All bridge players are welcome. For more information call Rowena Palmer at 743-2882.
Recertification
PARIS – Finders/Seekers Childcare Resource Development Center will sponsor the presentation and recertification of first aid and CPR by the American Heart Association. This course is for child care providers and will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at Community Concepts, Market Square, South Paris.

Art show
FRYEBURG – There will be a Mother’s Day art show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Masonic Hall. The event is sponsored by the Visual Arts Alliance.
