DIXFIELD – A special board meeting has been scheduled by SAD 21 directors at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 28, at T.W. Kelly Dirigo Middle School.

Agenda topics include accepting the resignation of Superintendent David Pierce, effective June 30, and acting on the recommendation of Thomas J. Ward as superintendent, effective July 1.

Pierce was hired as superintendent in 1987, when he was nearing the end of what has since become a 38-year career in the field of education.

Ward of South Berwick was hired March 29 as the district’s new superintendent. For the past eight years, he has served as principal at Marshwood High School in South Berwick. From 1985 to 1987, Ward served as principal at Dirigo High School.

In addition, the School Board is slated to review and act on the proposed 2003-04 school budget.
