NORWAY – William H. “Bill” Bunton, 82, of West Paris and Peaks Island, formerly of Bedford, Mass., died Monday, April 28, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Arlington, Mass., on July 20, 1920, the son of William E. and Leila King Bunton. He graduated from Arlington High School. He worked at Locke Stevens Plumbing Supply and later was employed for over 30 years at Metropolitan Pipe & Supply in Cambridge, Mass.
In a plumbing trade journal an article described “Bill” as a “walking encyclopedia of parts.” He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps, stationed in England during World War II. He was involved in the European Campagne, Normandy and Rhineland. He was a B-17 maintenance crew chief.
He was a member of the Hirem Lodge in Arlington, Mass., and a life member of the 390th Bomb Group (H) Veterans Associaton. He enjoyed photography, bowling and listening to music. He spent every summer on Peaks Island since he was three years old.
He married Geneva Mae Martin on July 11, 1945. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage in Bedford, Mass. She predeceased him July 2, 1996.
He is survived by a son, Richard Nachemja-Bunton and his wife Vivian of Avon, Conn.; a daughter, Susan M. Lyons of West Paris; three grandchildren, Monica Nachemja-Bunton of Washington, D.C., Stephanie Nachemja-Bunton of Avon, Conn., and Elliot B. Lyons of West Paris; a brother, John S. Bunton of Parsonsfield; and several nieces and nephews.
