LEWISTON – Maine Initiatives, a foundation that supports organizations cultivating social change, will honor Lewiston’s Many And One Coalition at its annual awards dinner on Sunday, May 8.

Each year Maine Initiatives recognizes community leaders who have significantly changed the social landscape of Maine. The Many And One Coalition, which has brought community members together to address misperceptions about new Somali immigrants, is being recognized for its ongoing work cultivating a healthy, productive, welcoming community for all.

Fatuma Hussein of United Somali Women of Maine and Mark Schlotterbeck of Calvary United Methodist Church will accept the award for the organization.

Maine Initiatives, a fund for change, makes grants to grassroots organizations. Its annual Watering Can Awards are a reference to the foundation’s motto, “Water to the roots and plenty of it.” The dinner, A Celebration of Social Change, will take place at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Taste of Maine Restaurant, Woolwich.
