MANSFIELD, Conn. – Paul Tedesco drove home a pair of runs to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 3-2 win over Western Connecticut State Wednesday in the first round of Little East Conference Baseball Tournament.

Brian Marshall doubled home Andy Lang in the bottom half of the sixth with what proved to be the winning run.

Marc Cahill picked up his seventh win of the season against one loss.

UMaine splits pair

ORONO – The University of Maine Black Bears recovered from an 8-1 loss in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader with Central Connecticut Staff to take game two, 4-3,.

In the first game, the Black Bear effort was led by Simon Williams, who drove in Maine’s lone run with an RBI double in the seventh inning.

In game two, Mike Livulpi recorded four hits and two RBIs to lead the Black Bears (32-13).

Bates 18, Gordon 8

LEWISTON – Bates College pounded out 20 hits and scored half of its runs in the fourth inning in a 16-8 rout of Gordon College Wesnesday.

The Bobcats (10-19) erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning on the back of Matt Peterson’s and Charlie Engasser’s two-run singles. Engasser went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and two more driven in. Peterson was 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore pitcher Melissa Henderson tossed her second-career one-hitter and Kristi Steward drove in the lone run to life the University of Southern Maine to a 1-0 victory over Rhode Island College Wednesday. in the opening round of the ECAC Tournament.

.Henderson took no-hitter into the sixth inning. She finished with five strikeouts.
