MANSFIELD, Conn. – Joey Serfass tossed a three-hit shutout to lead Eastern Connecticut to a 10-0 victory over Southern Maine in the Little East Conference Baseball Tournament Friday.

The Huskies were crippled by the impressive pitching efforts of Serfass, who struck out five, gave up only three hits and did not walk a hitter. Adam Lemieux led off the game with the only extra base hit that the Huskies would garner.

The Warrirors (36-7) weresparked by Eugene Julien with three hits, including a double, for three RBIs.

USM must defeat UMass-Dartmouth in an elimination game at noon for the right to meet Eastern Connecticut again at 4 pm.

Maine eliminated

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – After staying alive with a 5-2 win over Stony Brook in the afternoon, Maine suffered a 19-6 defeat to Boston University to be eliminated from the America East Softball Tournament.

The Black Bears (26-22) never recovered after BU scored five runs in the first inning.

scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Brittany Cheney blasted a two-run home run to left center field to ignite the five run rally keeping the Bears alive in the tournament.

Jenna Merchant went the distance for Maine striking out three.
