WILTON – A Dixfield man was injured when he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and struck a tree Tuesday afternoon.

Police officer Jeffrey Dunham said Carroll Cray, 75, formerly of Farmington Falls, received a broken wrist, multiple contusions and abrasions and complained of chest pain after the accident on Route 2 between Bill Jerry’s Transmission and Wilton Auto.

Cray’s vehicle was traveling east on the highway when it left the road, followed a ditch, ran over a small spruce tree, hit a large pine tree and rolled onto its side, Dunham said.

Cray said “he fell asleep,” Dunham reported.

Wilton firefighters extricated Cray from his vehicle and he was taken by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.
