AUBURN – Colin Britt, an Edward Little High School senior, is musical director for Community Little Theatre’s presentation of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” opening May 30 at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center, Academy Street.
The musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice will run through June 8. Tickets may be reserved by calling the Box Office at 783-0958. Additional information may be obtained at the Web site at laclt.com
Britt is a member of the graduating class at Edward Little High School. He will attend Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Conn., in the fall, majoring in music composition and voice.
Britt is no stranger to theater, having been musical director for CLT’s “Alice in Wonderland,” the recent Kander and Ebb Evening and the upcoming “Annie.” He was musical director for three all-student theater projects, including “Sweeney Todd” in 2002.
His talents were also demonstrated onstage, appearing in leading roles in CLT’s “Phantom” as Count Phillippe De Chandon and as Rolf in “The Sound of Music” last year. He also starred as Tony in EL’s “West Side Story” and Joseph in Monmouth’s “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
In fact, Britt grew up in the theatre, being involved in most CLT shows, either onstage, backstage or in the orchestra pit since the fifth grade.
During high school, he was a member of the All-District and All-State choristers for three consecutive years as well as being an All-Eastern chorister for 2003. The EL music class recital, held at the Bates College Olin Arts Center in April, had one of Britt’s original compositions on the program. Another original orchestral composition, “One Day in September,” will be premiered by the Androscoggin Valley Community Orchestra at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at the Olin Arts Center. Another premiere coming up on Saturday, June 28, at CLT is “Billionaire Vegans” for which he is composer and musical director.
