HARTFORD – Road commissioners from Hartford and Sumner will work on an estimate to repair Russell Road Bridge, selectmen learned Wednesday.

Sumner Selectman Clifford McNeil told Hartford selectmen of his board’s decision to allow James Keach, Sumner’s road commissioner, to work with Alan McNeil, Hartford’s road commissioner, on the estimate.

Selectman David Bowen told McNeil that he would like to see an estimate before agreeing to share the cost.

Hartford Selectman Scott Swain said that his town is only interested in sharing the cost of replanking.

Selectmen also discussed estimates by Pike Industries to repave sections of Town Farm Road, Perry Road and Stetson Road. The Road Committee recommends paving one mile each of Town Farm and Stetson roads.

Bowen requested that Theriault put together field maintenance specifications to see what it would cost to have the Hartford Sports Committee take responsibility for town sports fields.

Bowen suggested a lump sum be added to the Youth Sport Committee budget to assist in field maintenance, that figure to be determined by the committee.

“We take care of the cemetery lawns and the town beach,” Swain said. “Why wouldn’t we take care of the ball fields?”

Bowen said he would prefer that the Youth Sports Committee be responsible for the ball fields; Theriault wanted assurance that the fields would be properly maintained.

Theriault said he would speak with the committee to see if it will maintain the ball fields.

Waste disposal bids were received from Pine Tree Waste, Archie’s and Cross Road Landfill & Waste Management. Selectmen said they will review bids with Waste Committee members Lee Holman and Jeremy Johnson before accepting one to bring before town voters.

There will be a public hearing May 28 at the SAD 39 superintendent’s office in Buckfield to discuss the bond referendum on June 17. The referendum requests money to pay for roof repairs at Buckfield Junior-Senior High School.

The public hearing conflicts with the selectmen’s meeting scheduled for May 28. Selectmen agreed to change the date of the next selectmen meeting to May 29.

Selectmen are looking for community members to serve on the comprehensive planning board. Interested community members should contact the town office.
