Winning the single seat in a two-way race for Water Commission vacated by David Hale was Stanley A. Doughty Jr., who received 323 votes in his first try for elective office. Janey L. Rivard, another newcomer to local politics, received 114.

Elected unopposed to seats on the Library Governing Board were Sally A. Lunt, 376, and Ralph G. Day, 331.

Only 465 out of 5,887 eligible voters turned out for the election, according to a spokesman at the Town Clerk’s Office.
