AUBURN – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society has begun collecting submissions for its annual Feline Foto Contest, celebrating the special cats in the community.

Judging will be held as part of the Strutt Your Mutt Dog Walk and Pet Festival on Saturday, June 7, at Railroad Park in Lewiston. Photos must be received by May 30.

Photos will be judged in four categories: Best All-Around, Best Dressed, Funniest and Cutest. Prizes include a cat gift basket, donated by Gift Baskets by Celeste and a hand-crafted kitty doorstop.

Winners will be featured in the Humane Society’s newsletter and posted on the Web site.

Each contest submission requires a $5 donation and the following information printed on the back of each photo: cat’s name, owner’s name, address and phone number. Send only photos that do not need to be returned to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, Attn: Feline Foto, 3312 Hotel Road, Auburn, ME 04210. Judging will take place at 11 a.m.; winners need not be present to win.

The Humane Society provides a safe haven for approximately 3,600 sick, homeless and abused animals a year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fund-raising events and donations of residents. The shelter gives back through community services, including animal intake and adoption, animal health services, reuniting people with lost animals, humane education and working with individuals who are disadvantaged or developmentally disabled.

The Humane Society, 3312 Hotel Road, is in the middle of a capital campaign to build a new shelter. If interested in helping, call 786-4713. Anyone interested in volunteering or adopting an animal can visit the shelter or visit the Web site at www.gahumane.org.
