1918 – 2003
SOUTH PARIS – Leon E. Smith, 85, of Norway died Wednesday, May 21, at the Maine Veterans Home.
He was born March 14, 1918, in Oxford the son of Leon and Lula Chaplin Smith. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1935. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He worked as a textile dyer in woolen mills in New England for many years before becoming a sales representative for Organic Chemical Co. in Providence, RI. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club in Waterville.
He enjoyed attending and watching Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtic’s games.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marion of Norway; his daughter, Joyce of Waterville; and his nephew, Francis of Skowhegan.
