LIVERMORE FALLS – A Livermore Falls teenager was in custody Thursday after allegedly stealing a car from Bellaire Road and going on a joy ride in Franklin County.
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies caught up with the 17-year-old boy in that county, Livermore Falls police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.
A Livermore Falls resident reported the Mercury Tracer missing Thursday morning. The beige passenger car was stolen either late Wednesday or early Thursday, Steward said.
An alert then went out to police in the region.
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies reported finding some papers belonging to the owner and U.S. flags that were thrown out of the car in the Strong area, Steward said. The owner is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Jay, he said.
The vehicle was later found abandoned on a road in Franklin County, and the suspect was found and taken into custody, Steward said. The vehicle was impounded at Hill Top Collision Center in Jay.
County deputies were unavailable for comment Thursday.
