This letter is in response to the May 17 article regarding L/A College assistant professor Barry Rodrigue and his desire to see President Bush indicted for racketeering and war crimes.

His argument is that the president chose to go to war in Iraq mainly to make financial gains for himself and his friends. He specifically cited oil company Halliburton, which was awarded a contract to put out fires in oil wells, as an example.

If the president and his corporate friends stood to gain so much from this contract, why did the administration have Special Forces in place in every key oil field prior to the start of the war? These soldiers limited the number of oil well fires to a handful!

If what Rodrigue says is true, wouldn’t the administration have done everything in its power to ensure hundreds, even thousands of fires, thereby guaranteeing many months of expensive work for Halliburton?

What I really find troubling about this stunt is that Mr. Rodrigue uses his position as an educator to put forth his own political agenda.

Like many of our campus liberals, he would have the U.S. take a back seat to the authority of the United Nations.

These people envision a world government with the U.S. being but one voice among many equals. A scary thought when an educator would give up the sovereignty of our nation and put our fates in the hands of fascist dictators and Islamic militants!
