1918 – 2003

AUGUSTA – John L. Celley Jr., 85, of Twin Cedars Boarding Home, Farmingdale, died Sunday evening, May 25, at Maine General Hospital, Augusta.

He was born, May 17, 1918, in Saugus, Mass., a son of John L. and Nettie Robbins Celley Sr. He graduated from Classical High School in Lynn, Mass. and continued his schooling in hydrolics.

Mr. Celley was a veteran, having served in the United States Army as a Master Sergeant in World War II. He was a mechanic for 25 years at the New England Power Co.

His passions were fishing and rollerskating. He rollerskated well into his late 70s at the Livermore Falls Roller Rink. He will be missed by his cat, Smokey.

Survivors include his former wife, Mary Willett Celley of Gardiner; a daughter, Jean May Sullivan of Hawaii; a brother, Neal Celley of Middleton, Mass.; and three grandchildren.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Blanche Celley, Dot Porter and Alice Turpin; and two brothers, Earl and Kenneth Celley.
