LIVERMORE – Concerned residents will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Brettuns Community Building on the Batten Road right of way.
A fact sheet distributed by the residents states the right of way is the only town-owned access to the neighborhood at the end of Bean Street.
They would like to see it open for reasons varying from convenience to safety, they say.
Presently two landowners on the road have gated it to protect their mining operation, Walton’s Mountain, which supplies road sand to both Livermore and Livermore Falls Highway Departments, among others.
The opening has been a major topic at recent meetings of the selectpeople, who voted Tuesday night to issue an order of discontinuance of the Batten Road as a public easement, if that action is approved at the annual town meeting.
The order is a matter of process, said Administrative Assistance Kurt Schaub. The road will be one of the final articles on the 2003-04 warrant.
