The letter to the editor of May 24 titled “Tax cut zombies” from Dawn missed the mark for accuracy very badly.

It is a fact that the top 50 percent of IRS taxpayers pay some 96 percent of all income taxes collected. They are the ones paying the freight, so why don’t they deserve the largest share of the tax cut?

The bottom 50 percent only contribute 4 percent of IRS taxes collected and plenty of people do not understand who is really riding in the wagon as opposed to those saddled with pushing it.

As it is, many Americans will get money refunded even though they pay little if any taxes, as they do every year. Why not give a larger tax break to those who have been pushing the wagon all these years?

What we should be hearing is a thunderous chorus for reducing government spending. It appears that our two representatives and Sen. Snowe have no idea as to how government should best reduce the deficit.

Stop spending so recklessly. Live within your means as we heavily taxed wagon pushers have to.
