1906 – 2003

LEWISTON – Fernande C. Couture, 96, of 20 Great Falls Plaza and formerly of 1073 Minot Ave., Auburn, died Friday, May 30, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion, where she resided for the past four years.

Born in Lewiston on Nov. 15, 1906, a daughter of Philias and Algae Sirois Simard, she was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Bliss College.

She was married in 1930 to Laureat P. Couture and he died Dec. 26, 1986. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Ladies of St. Anne Sodality, New Auburn Senior Citizens and AARP.

She taught at St. Mary’s Parochial School prior to her retirement and she enjoyed bird watching and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Madeleine Lemieux and husband, Roger of Lisbon and Monique Doiron and husband, Roger of Lewiston; two sons, Fernand Couture and his wife, Jane of Casselberry, Fla., and Louis Paul Couture and his wife, Aline of Lewiston; ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rolande Couillard; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Marc Couture, six sisters, Florida Simard, Alma Godin, Blanche Cote, Corinne Viere, Cecile Bolduc and Jeannette Moisan and three brothers, Alfred, Fernand and Ronaldo Simard.
