The article by Peter Mullen in the Sun Journal on May 25 concerning his very positive experience in a fly fishing course sponsored by Gray-New Gloucester Adult Education was excellent and entertaining.
The Maine Adult Education Association hopes that it will inspire others to challenge themselves by joining the nearly 70,000 Maine adults who join neighbors and friends by enrolling in enrichment, community and recreational courses operated by local adult education programs each year. These self-supporting program areas complement the literacy, high school completion, GED, vocational and college transitions courses that are such familiar adult education components.
Maine’s adult education programs are a wonderful resource and encourage the sharing of skills in a way that truly reflects our local communities. Many programs are now advertising summer offerings, and this is also the season when fall courses are in the planning stages. Local directors would welcome suggestions and course proposals.
We congratulate Mr. Mullen on his article, wish him well with his fishing this summer, and would like to assure him that should he decide to enroll in the quilting class he was contemplating as his next venture, he would experience no gender bias and would likely have a great time.
