FARMINGTON – Mary Morton Cowan of Standish, author of fiction and nonfiction for children and youth, will present “Trees to Logs: An Overview of Logging Skills in 19th Century Northern New England” at 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the University of Maine at Farmington during the UMF Humanities Conference.

Her book will be published this fall, titled “Timberrr … a History of Logging in New England.

Cowan joins 19 historians from Iowa, Michigan and all of New England for the 11th annual conference at UMF, held in the North Dining Rooms of the Olsen Student Center, beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 5 and concluding with a noon luncheon Saturday, June 7. Registration for the three-day event is $15.

On Thursday evening a concert will be presented by the Franklin County Fiddlers, starting at 7 p.m. in the North Dining Rooms. Friday at 7 p.m., Elizabeth De Wolfe from the University of New England will discuss her book about Mary Marshall Dyer’s anti-Shaker campaign of the 19th century. Everyone is welcome to the evening programs free of charge.
