SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -The Anaheim Angels took a quick liking to cozy Hiram Bithorn Stadium.
Troy Glaus, Tim Salmon and Jeff DeVanon homered in the first inning to spoil the opener of Montreal’s second homestand in San Juan with a 15-4 victory Tuesday night.
While the fans were still settling into their seats, the World Series champion Angels struck for five runs against Tomo Ohka (4-6) before the first out.
Marlins 13, Athletics 2
MIAMI- Mike Lowell hit a pair of three-run homers and the Florida Marlins sent Mark Mulder to his worst start in nearly two years, beating the Oakland Athletics 13-2.
Brad Penny pitched seven strong innings and hit a three-run triple for the Marlins, who won for the eighth time in 11 games. The six RBIs set a career high for Lowell, who homered off Mulder as part of a six-run third inning.
Mariners 4, Phillies 0
PHILADELPHIA – Jamie Moyer pitched seven shutout innings and Brett Boone homered, leading the Seattle Mariners to their seventh straight victory, 4-0 over the Philadelphia Phillies in the first meeting between the teams.
Reds 4, Yankees 3
CINCINNATI – Twenty-seven years later, the Yankees still couldn’t win in Cincinnati.
Juan Castro slapped a run-scoring single just inside first base with two outs in the ninth inning, giving the Cincinnati Reds a 4-3 victory in New York’s long-awaited return.
Braves 6, Rangers 5
ATLANTA – Andruw Jones came off the bench and hit a two-out, two-run homer in the eighth inning, lifting the Atlanta Braves to a 6-5 victory over the Texas Rangers.
Kevin Gryboski (4-3) earned the win.
by getting two outs in the eighth, a runner at second. He retired Vinny Castilla on a grounder to shortstop, then got ahead 0-2 on Jones.
