LEWISTON – The original founders of what became the Great Falls Federal Credit Union were recognized and honored at this year’s annual meeting as the credit union celebrated its 50th anniversary. Also recognized was Nancy Bard, president/CEO of Great Falls Federal Credit Union, who was presented with a plaque in recognition of the credit union’s 50 years of service during the annual meeting at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Four of the founders of the Aerotred FCU, established in 1953, and the St. Louis FCU, established in 1954, were invited as special guests to the milestone celebration. Three of them were present for the special honors: Gladys Dick and Butch Bouchard of Aerotred, and Rosaire LaFontaine of St. Louis. Not present was Esther Wright of Aerotred.
The Aerotred FCU was the first “industrial credit union” to receive its charter in the Lewiston-Auburn area. It serviced the employees of the Knapp Shoe Manufacturing Corp. and later expanded to include other manufacturing companies. The St. Louis FCU serviced the parishioners of St. Louis Church in New Auburn.
The two credit unions merged in 1996, becoming Great Falls Federal Credit Union. Great Falls Federal Credit Union now serves all of Androscoggin County with three branch locations: 34 Bates St., Lewiston; 33 Dunn St., Auburn; and 760 Minot Ave., Auburn.
The chairman of the Board of Directors, Paul Morin, welcomed members and invited guests, and reported on the credit union’s progress over the past year.
Bard reported on the financial condition of the credit union, crediting its success to the loyalty and commitment of the volunteer Board of Directors and the staff.
Re-elected as directors were Mike Roy and Teri Maheux. Roy has served on the board for over six years. Maheux currently serves as secretary and has been with the credit union for more than 15 years.
Also recognized for their years of service with the credit union were Roger D. Bosse, vice president; Teri Lawlor; and Walter Hinkley, assistant vice president of operations.
