1918-2003

LEWISTON – Hilda Jean Putnam, 84, a resident of d’Youville Pavilion the past 5 years, died Friday, June 6, at d’Youville Pavilion. She was a former resident of 434 Webster St. and previously lived in Livermore Falls.

She was born in London, England, Dec. 15, 1918, the daughter of William John and Edith Ellen Stamp Davis. She was educated in London schools and served in the British Army during World War II. She was married July 29, 1944, to Lewis T. Putnam.

Prior to her retirement in 1978 she was employed as a sales clerk at the former Ham’s Drug Store in Livermore Falls. She was a former member of the Robin Dow Senior Citizens and Calvary United Methodist Church. She was a people person who smiled at everyone, even during her illness.

She is survived by her husband of Lewiston; two sons, Brian L. Putnam and his wife, Marian, of Hyde Park, Mass., and Barry Putnam and his wife, Diane, of Lewiston; a grandson, James Putnam; and a sister, Ivy Sutch of Lowestoft, England.
