In regard to the letter from Mr. Russell Kaniuka about the sewage sludge, I completely agree with his concerns (May 31). I would, however, like to see them carried a step further to apply to manure trucks on our highways.

The highways in our area are coated with this filth when it is being transported and the stench in the air is unbearable at times, actually burning the eyes and nose and turning the stomach.

The manure is dumped in fields and left in piles for weeks, causing flies and running across the roads and into the streams and rivers each time it rains.

It is hard to believe that we can’t dump dishwater on the ground, or use an outside shower because it will pollute the soil, but this filth is acceptable both on the ground and in the air.
